Sudoku on Planes, Trains, and Waiting Rooms

By Sudoku a Day ·

Sudoku can fit a train journey, a waiting room or a quiet break during travel. Prepare a format you can use comfortably and stop whenever you need to move.

Prepare before leaving

Download a PDF pack while connected. Open the saved file to check that it is available, then print it if you want paper. Bring a pencil and keep the answer pages separate if you do not want to see them while solving.

The four-per-page format saves paper. Choose one large grid per sheet when smaller cells would be awkward.

If you prefer an app

Check your chosen app's offline and save behavior before relying on it. Open the intended puzzle without a connection, make a test entry, close and reopen it, and check what was kept. Do not assume a browser tab or every Sudoku app will work offline or restore an unfinished game.

Plan for interruptions

For a short wait, choose a familiar level and look for one clear placement. On paper, mark the area you were examining and keep candidate notes legible. You can leave the grid unfinished. No difficulty label guarantees that you will finish before your stop.

Solving with children

The kids teaching guide explains small-grid examples and how to help without turning the puzzle into a test. The teacher resources describe the actual 9×9 printable formats.

Keep the setting in mind

Use sound off, keep paper and belongings within your space, and put the puzzle away when you need to pay attention to travel instructions. Only solve as a passenger, never while driving or cycling.
