Sudoku tips
Choose the help that matches your current puzzle. You can learn a rule, check a mistake or practise a more consistent routine without memorising a long list of techniques.
Where do you need help?
- Starting out: read the three rules, then try the interactive course.
- Finding an error: use the mistake checklist to check entries and notes.
- No next move: follow the stuck-puzzle guide.
- Finishing more smoothly: try the speed-practice routine.
Plan a session
- Understand solving times before choosing a speed target.
- Keep your place during a puzzle, including when you take a break.
- Follow a four-week practice plan at your own pace.
Use a repeatable first pass
Choose a row, column or box with few empty cells. List its missing digits, then check the crossing groups for each empty cell. After a placement, revisit the groups it affects. If nothing changes, move to another part of the grid.
Keep uncertainty visible
Write candidate notes where they help you follow the reasoning. Keep possible values separate from confirmed entries. When a digit is placed, review the notes in its row, column and box. If a note set suddenly becomes empty, investigate before continuing.
Study one move at a time
The strategy library contains individual lessons. Pick a technique you want to understand and explain its reason before using it. The strategy cheat sheet is a reminder to keep beside you.
Choose a practice format
Play today's puzzle or use the automatic printable downloads. For paper practice with a separate solution page, choose a pack with answers. Match the difficulty to whether you want relaxed solving or a new challenge.
For your first attempts, keep the beginner checklist beside the grid. See the FAQ for playing and printing questions.
